Karen Terlecky has been been teaching for over 3o years. She has worked in many different roles during her educational career. She started as a middle school learning disabilities / behavior disorders teacher, then transitioned to teaching a developmentally handicapped class in an elementary school for six years, and worked with students with hearing impairments as well.
Beth Lawson works with an English language learner writing his first sentence, School is over. Using tools of an alphabet chart and the strategy of stretching it out, this student works through the sentence with Beth's support.
Word study and nonfiction reading are combined in Franki Sibberson's whole-group nonfiction word hunt activity. Each child shares which word he or she found, where it was found, and reflects on what the discoveries mean to the community of word learners.
